  بارہ مہینوں کے نام کیسے پڑے؟ تاریخ کے جھروکوں میں جھانکنے کاموقع دینے والی دلچسپ داستان سال کے365 دن 12؍ مہینے رکھتے ہیں۔ ان میں کوئی30، کوئی31 اور کوئی28 یا29 دن کا ہوتا ہے۔  ان مہینوں کے نام کس طرح رکھے گئے، یہ داستان دلچسپ پس منظر رکھتی ہے۔                                  جنوری عیسوی سال کے پہلے مہینے کا نام، رومیوں کے ایک دیوتا جانس (Janus) کے نام پر رکھا گیا۔  جانس دیوتا کے متعلق کہا جاتا ہے کہ اس کی پوجا صرف جنگ کے دنوں میں کی جاتی تھی ,امن میں نہیں۔ دیوتا کے دو سر تھے، جن سے وہ بیک وقت آگے پیچھے دیکھ سکتا تھا۔اس مہینے کا نام جانس یوں رکھا گیاکہ جس طرح دیوتا اپنے دو سروں کی وجہ سے آگے پیچھے دیکھ سکتا ہے، اسی طرح انسان بھی جنوری میں اپنے ماضی و حال کا جائزہ لیتا ہے۔ یہ بھی کہا جاتا ہے کہ جنوری کا لفظ لاطینی زبان کے لفظ جنوا (Janua) سے اخذ کیاگیا جس کا مطلب ہے ’’دروازہ‘‘۔ یوں جنوری کا مطلب ہوا ’’سال کا دروازہ‘‘۔ماہ جنوری31؍ دِنوں پر مشتمل ہے۔           ...
